REALTORS care about their communities and about the lack of affordable, decent homes available to working families. That’s why the North Carolina Association of REALTORS created its housing foundation, Homes4NC. We are a 501(c)(3) public charity whose purpose is to increase safe, decent and affordable housing for all North Carolinians. We do this by raising funds from caring donors and by providing grants to nonprofit organizations that help low- and moderate-income families with their housing needs. We also provide emergency disaster relief and educational programs that increase housing opportunities. Homes4NC is led by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of REALTORS, Association Executives and representatives from other housing-related organizations. Numerous other volunteers give of their time and talents to serve on various committees. Who We Help Homes4NC provides grants to housing organizations that assist first-time homebuyers, the homeless, families in crisis, victims of natural disasters and more. Our programs focus on those critical workers -- such as teachers, firefighters and nurses – who don’t earn enough to afford the average-priced home in the community they serve. Since we began in 2004, we’ve made grants totaling more than $222,000 to housing organizations across the state. When you consider that local REALTOR associations provided matching funds, NC REALTORS have given more than $400,000 to affordable housing initiatives. While these numbers are impressive, they’re just the beginning of the story. What they really represent are families whose lives have been dramatically improved and children who will attain more in life because they have a stable home.
